1st Harvest Monday!!

Left: Before Harvest
Right: After Harvest

So up to this point we've had a tiny bit of lettuce and about 2 cherry tomatoes, so I haven't been posting for harvest Monday, but today I am happy to report that I have a harvest! All of the lettuce we planted was ready for harvest, just in time for J's birthday dinner. The lettuce was delicious, with a great flavor and crispness. And, along with about 5 cherry tomatoes from our Aerogarden it made the perfect dinner salad! Yay for a harvest!Generally, for your birthday in our house, you get to pick whatever you want for the whole meal, so to go along with the homegrown salad, we had some homemade macaroni and cheese and J requested that I bake him a pineapple upside down cake. I've enver made one before, and I think I've only eaten once once, so it was quite the challenge, but I think I did pretty well. And it was darn tasty!!
Happy Birthday J!

  1. That's a nice mess of lettuce you harvested and how lucky to have some ripe cherry tomatoes to top that fresh salad! The pineapple upside down cake looks absolutely delicious.

  4. Oh the cake looks delicious. I'm sure the lettuce was too, but I have such a sweet tooth.

  5. My windowbox looked just like yours after the harvest! But lettuce recovers so fast, it's amazing! How many harvests do you plan to get from these two boxes?

  6. Balblo - I'm not sure, as I've never done lettuce from a window box. I'd love to get another harvest off the original plants, but I planted new seeds so I think I'll just keep going with seeds to be sure.

  8. My dad always requests that cake for his bday, but my mom has always used rings instead of chunks and I think adds cherries afterwards? Idk if it makes a difference or not.

I'm catching up on all your blogging, and maybe will be motivated to do a very small-scale garden experiment :)
